Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas Joseph Konczak, 71, of Kilgore will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Pastor Brian Nutt and Reverend Dudley Plaisance officiating. A private burial service will be held at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler. Tommy passed away at his home in Kilgore on Monday, May 1, 2017.

Tommy Konczak was born in Baird, Texas January 12, 1946. He was raised in Clyde, Texas outside of Abilene. Tommy is the youngest of seven children raised by Frank and Mildred Konczak. Tommy attended Clyde Public schools where he graduated from Clyde High School. Tommy was a standout football player for Clyde and earned a football scholarship to Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Tx. Tommy was a member of the 1966 Texans team who defeated a team of Mexican All-Stars in the Azteca Bowl played in Mexico City. In 1968, Tommy earned his BA degree in Biology and in 1973, Tommy earned a Masters degree from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. In 1968, Tommy married Jerry Lynn Billings and the two were together until her death in 2005.

Tommy is fondly remembered as a Science Teacher and Coach in Winters and Ft. Stockton, Texas.

Tommy was a member of the West Erwin Church of Christ in Tyler and Chandler Street Church of Christ in Kilgore.

Tommy moved to Tyler in the late 1970ís as Regional Engineer for the B.J. Hughes Co. overseeing and designing frac jobs. In 1974, Tommy started KCL Fluids in Tyler, Texas inventing new methods of packaging and delivering chemicals in the water needed to fracture wells. In 1984, Tommy sold his business to Ashland Chemical and served as General Manager of KCL Group of Ashland Chemical, a Division Of Ashland Oil Inc. From 1988 to the present Tommy owned JT Products delivering and packaging chemicals used in water treatment for Oil & Gas, Industrial, and Recreational needs.

He was Past President and Board of Directors of Tarleton Alumni Association, Member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, East Texas Oilmenís Association, and a Board Member of Boy Scout Troop 354.

Tommy was known for helping many friends in many different ways. His efforts were recognized by the Danville Masonic Lodge No. 101 with the Community Builder Award given to him in 2014.

Tommy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, J.T. and Angie Konczak of Kilgore; sisters, Dortha Tucker and husband, Tommy of Tyler and June Patton of Tyler; grandsons, Tucker Konczak and Ryder Konczak of Kilgore; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jerry Lynn Konczak; three sisters and a brother.

Pallbearers will be Tucker Konczak, Ryder Konczak, Mike Grinnell, Robbie Tucker, Ted Tucker, Officer Todd Nault, and Ranger Vic Patton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
