Services for Johnnie Neil Brewer, 88, of Kilgore will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Buddy Duggins officiating. The burial will follow at Danville Cemetery. Mr. Brewer died Friday, July 7, 2017 in Kilgore.

He was born September 7, 1928 in Clarksville, Texas to Otis and Flossie Brewer. Johnnie graduated from Clarksville High School. He was a hard working man all of his life and in his early years he drove a taxi, broke horses and even logged cypress trees with a mule team. Johnnie married Leopal Crawford July 17, 1948, whom he lovingly called ‘Opal’. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Brewer worked in many positions for Halliburton before retiring as a drilling superintendent, while living all across the world including Texas cities of Midland, Rankin, Sonora, and Odessa. He also worked overseas for many years in the countries of Libya and Venezuela. He would go on to work for and retire again from Houston Natural Gas (NHG), now Enron, where he worked in most of the major domestic oil fields across the United States. He was known for his ability and for being an early adopter of directional drilling techniques across the oil industry. Johnnie owned and operated L & J Consulting in his later years and worked until he retired at the age of 80. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Forest Home Baptist Church. Mr. Brewer was a loving father, brother, father-in-law, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law and friend to many.

Mr. Brewer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Robert Welch of Liberty City; his granddaughter, Marissa and John Martin of Longview; great-granddaughter, Ruby Kirkpatrick Martin of Longview; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Leopal Crawford Brewer and his sister, Anna Catherine Burchell.

The Brewer’s will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Monday evening between 5:30 – 7:00 pm

The family would like to express their gratitude to Buford Shipley and also Rachel, Bree, and Kim as well as the entire Compass Hospice Team. They would also like to thank the caring staff of The Willows.
