Cathy Taylor Schleier, a deeply-loved, one of a kind spirit, passed away on April 30th, 2018, at the age of 65 years old at her home in Kilgore, TX. She passed away in peace comforted by her sons, Taylor and Garrett, the loves of her life.
Born in Kilgore, TX on July 28th, 1952, she was the youngest of three siblings. Along with her brothers, James and Des, she attended Kilgore Heights Elementary, Kilgore Junior High, and Kilgore High School. After she graduated from KHS in 1970, she went on to pursue her Associates Degree at Kilgore Junior College. Cathy was a member and Lieutenant of the World Famous Kilgore College Rangerettes. In addition to her stunning beauty, she was a showstopper with her incredible smile, impeccable high kicks, and infectious personality.
In 1973 at the age of 21, she began her life-long career as a flight attendant with American Airlines. Although she loved traveling the world including destinations such as Buenos Aires, London, Tokyo, Santiago, and Beijing, she truly enjoyed serving and bringing joy to her passengers. Cathy never met a stranger and left an impression on all those she encountered. She absolutely loved being in the air, but she loved being with her family more than anything. After 42 years of service, she retired in 2017 leaving a lasting legacy with American Airlines.
Her loyal dog, Roscoe, brought her so much happiness and continued to be by her side until the very end. She adored her grand-daughter, Alexandra, who bears a striking resemblance to her “Grand-Cak”. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, watching movies, and entertaining her many girlfriends including Margaret “Puddie”, Karen, Vikki, and Linda. Her sons’ friends endeared her as “Miss Cathy”, a second mom to all of them. Charisma and wit exuded from her and made all feel welcome, cared for, and a part of her family. She was so beloved by her forever Rangerette sisters, her American Airlines colleagues, and her extensive family and friends. Cathy was unforgettable and her kindness left an imprint on the hearts of so many.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Taylor & Amanda Schleier and granddaughter, Alexandra Joyce Schleier, of Houston, TX; son, Garrett Schleier and Lynn Nguyen, of Haltom City, TX; brother and sister-in-law, James and Ella Ruth Taylor of Kilgore, TX, niece and nephew Rhonda and Ken Chinn, and great niece, Tara Chinn of Longview, TX. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, James Montaque Taylor and Mary Fambrough Taylor, and her brother, Des Taylor.
