Services for Fred Samford, 89 of Longview will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Chaplain Wayne Norvell officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 pm Wednesday at Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas. Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Samford passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Longview, Texas.

Fred Samford was born in Paxton, Texas on April 28, 1929 to the late Rogers Ben Samford and Eula Cammack Samford and passed from this life on May 12, 2018 in Longview, Texas. Fred graduated from Tenaha High School in 1946. He played on the football and basketball teams, and his senior class voted him Most Popular. After graduation at age 17, he decided to join the U.S. Navy, and served from 1946 to 1948 in the Pacific, stationed at Okinawa. After Fred returned from his military service, he met Joann Ingram who became the love of his life.

Fred began employment with Atlantic Pipeline in January 1950. He and Joann were married on June 17, 1950. They lived in Aransas Pass when Glenn was born in October 1951 and when Shirley was born in 1953. They moved to Corpus Christi in 1955. Fred worked for Atlantic Refining in Corpus Christi as an Accountant. He later transferred to the Dallas and Houston offices of ARCO and worked as Accounting Supervisor. He retired at the ARCO’s Longview office in 1985 after 36 years of employment. Fred and Joann especially enjoyed running and being active in St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kilgore after they relocated to their farm in 1980.

Preceding him in death is his brother, Rogers Burke Samford, and his sister, Aillene Samford Roberson.

Surviving Fred are: his wife, Joann Ingram Samford, son Glenn Samford and wife Kathryn Hall, daughter Shirley Samford Smith and husband Terry, grandchildren Shaun Smith and Micah Smith, Ben Samford and Jennifer Samford Bonifacio and husband Raul, and great grandchildren Shelby Smith and Zachary Smith.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church 401 E. Main St., Kilgore, Texas 75662.
