Dean Waldo, 78, of Kilgore passed away Monday, August 6, 2018. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Will Wilson officiating.
Dean was born May 4, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to Clifton William Waldo and Eunice Irene Bowen Waldo. While working for the newspaper, Dean met the love of his life, Isabel Anne Dickson and married January 15, 1961. His parents had also met and fell in love at the newspaper and Dean and Isabelís son, Tom met his wife, Karen at the newspaper. This made three generations of love found at the newspaper! Dean attended & graduated from Kilgore schools. He also earned a bachelorís Degree & later a Masterís Degree from University of Texas at Tyler. He worked many years at the Kilgore & Longview Newspapers and retired from Verizon in 2005. Before and after retirement, he substituted at Kilgore High School and really enjoyed being surrounded by the young minds. He had many hobbies that he enjoyed like gardening, electronics, woodworking and reading. In the earlier years, he and Isabel were involved in church activities and the youth groups. He also was a member of the Rotary Club. He was always the #1 supporter for his grandchildren, no matter if it was attending dance recitals or soccer games or anything in between. He enjoyed walking his beloved Hazee in the neighborhood and visiting everyone.
If you knew Dean, you knew his voice and his hearty laugh and he will be greatly missed!
Dean is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Janice Chamberlin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Isabel Waldo; sons, Tom Waldo (Karen) of Kilgore and Bill Waldo (Darla) of Dallas; grandchildren, Lacy Waldo Hull (Kolby) of The Woodlands, Shawn Waldo of Plano, Mia Waldo of St. Louis, MO, Bryan Thornton of Dallas, and Bethany Gonzales (Louie) of Dallas; great grandchildren, Gavin and Skylar Gonzales of Dallas and Kohen Hull of The Woodlands; and several nieces, nephews, family members and friends who loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Deanís honor to the Alzheimerís Association of Smith County, 211 Winchester Drive, Tyler, Texas 75701.
