G.W. Woodmansee, Jr.

August 22, 1940 — October 13, 2021

Services for G.W. Woodmansee, 81, of Kilgore, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Forest Home Baptist Church, with Rev.Riley Pippen and Rev. David Hampton officiating, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Interment in the Danville Cemetery will immediately follow the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 until 7.
Glen W. Woodmansee, Jr. was born in Kilgore, TX, August 22, 1940, to his parents Glen W., Sr. and Zada Kruemcke Woodmansee. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1958. Glen served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was stationed in Germany working as a mechanic on the medical fleet. He worked for East Texas Salt Water Disposal for 40 years, retiring in 1999.G.W. began his leadership in Scouting as an Assistant Scoutmaster to Troop 252, sponsored by the Kilgore Rotary Club. He was presented the Good Shepherd Emblem by the Association of Baptists for Scouting, in association with the Southern Baptist churches and the East Texas Area Council of Boy Scouts. In 1992 he received The Silver Beaver citation for distinguished service to boyhood. G.W was very much involved in his church, Forest Home Baptist, volunteered at Fuller Center for Housing (formerly Kilgore Habitat for Humanity), went on many building mission trips, and was involved in a mountain men group of educators. He was a tireless worker.
G.W. is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine (Brightwell) Woodmansee; children, Robert Dell Woodmansee; Debbie Perry (Greg) of Denison; Michael Woodmansee (Holly) of Gladewater; granddaughters, Kayla Mezel (J.T.) of Joplin, MO.; Carly Martinez (Dan) of Little Rock, AR; grandsons Jacob Flores of Gladewater and Josiah Perry, of Denison; and great granddaughter Sadie Martinez of Little Rock. Also surviving are his sister, Carolyn Brightwell (Bert) of Kilgore and brother, Bernard Woodmansee (Beth) of Florence, MS. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Bert E. Brightwell.
