Services for Julia Ann Zahn DeFreece, 60, of Liberty City will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at seven o’clock in the evening at New Covenant Church in Longview with Pastor Mike Park officiating. The family will be receiving friends at New Covenant Church before the service from six until seven in the evening. Julia Ann Zahn DeFreece ended her earthly journey on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
Julia Ann Zahn DeFreece was born on June 24, 1961, in Falfurrias, Texas to Jerry Boyd Zahn Sr. and Mary Nell Zahn. She was a proud Sabine Cardinal and graduated in 1979. Julia continued her education at Kilgore College where she obtained her associates degree. After she attended Sam Houston State University where she was a Delta Zeta and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Julia had a successful career in the criminal justice system and worked for Lee, Gregg, and Rusk County. She was a beloved mother to her two children. Julia was a devoted Christian and long-standing member of McCary’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She taught children’s church, volunteered on Tuesday nights at the food pantry, and was a member of Sisters in Christ. Julia enjoyed baking, crafting, watching movies, and spending time with her family. She loved cats, holidays, and of course spoiling her grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, Janell Dunaway and husband Jacob Dunaway of Liberty City, son, Tell DeFreece and wife Morgan DeFreece of Shreveport, Louisiana, grandson, Eli Dunaway of Liberty City, brothers, J.B. Zahn Jr. and wife Sherrie Zahn of Trinity, Florida, Scott Zahn and wife Donna Zahn of Tatum, nieces Amanda Zahn of Nacogdoches, Texas, Kimberly Kitchens of Louisville, Kentucky, Michelle Busby of Meridian, Mississippi, nephews, Scotty Zahn of Tatum, Texas, Jonathan Culpepper of Trinity, Florida, and numerous cousins, friends, and other loving family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Boyd Zahn Sr., and Mary Nell Allan.
