Shirley Ann Ellerd

Shirley Ann Ellerd, of the late Jack and Clara Duncan was born May 26, 1934 in Kilgore, Texas. Shirley married the now late love of her life Sam Ellerd of Kilgore on June 5,1954. Together they created her absolute pride and joy - a family. She was an endlessly supportive wife, devoted and loving mother, and the foundation for her family through every generation. Shirley leaves behind a selfless legacy of always having an open door and place at her dinner table to both friend and stranger alike, being the first to forgive those who to others may not be deserving, and for never failing to express how much she loved, was proud of, and wanted nothing but the absolute best for the ones closest to her. She embodied kindness itself.

She departed this life Friday, April 22, 2022. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Opal Huey and Wanda Stallings and her son Sammy Ellerd Jr. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her sister Polly Downing; her daughters Rita Ellerd of Longview and Vera Compton along with her husband Mark Compton of Kilgore; grandchildren Trevar Compton, his wife Whitney and their children Legend, Lincoln, and Everest of Kilgore, Autria Compton and fiance Christopher Stavinoha of Houston, Laci Melton and her husband Larry of Kilgore and their children Braydon and Landon; and many nieces and nephews. The family will be holding a private burial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Buckner Children & Family Services.
