Alice Virginia Oliver

March 23, 1924 — July 12, 2024

Alice Virginia Oliver, age 100, of Baytown, Texas, passed into the glory of God on July 12, 2024. Alice was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, on March 23, 1924, to the late William and Clara Mills.

Alice spent most of her childhood in the Texarkana area, and told stories of having to walk a mile or two to the school bus stop each day, and how sometimes she and her brother, Bo, rode together to school on their horse. Her family later moved to Garland, Texas, and she graduated from Garland High School, where she played on the girls basketball team. Alice met Roy Oliver while he was on leave from the US Navy during World War II. Upon return after the war, they were married on February 14, 1946. They lived in East Texas and then Baytown, Texas, where they raised a family while Roy worked for Exxon Mobil. Upon retirement, they moved back to Kilgore, Texas, where their greatest joy was helping and ministering to people. Their faith impacted all who knew them. Alice was a gentle and compassionate woman who was devoted to her husband and loved her family, friends, and community. They were members of Church on the Rock (later named New Covenant Church) and Rock Hill Christian Fellowship during their time in Kilgore, before ultimately moving back to Baytown in 2013 where they attended Celebration of Life Church.

Alice loved children and for several years operated a daycare in her home. She also enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden and sharing them with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Roy Oliver; parents; four sisters, Valerie Greenwood, Lelia Katolnig, Lillie Nichols, and Mildred Mills; and five brothers, Wayne Mills, Richard Mills, Raymond Mills, Wiley (Bo) Mills, and Tommy Mills.

Alice is survived by daughters Cynthia Moore and husband Robert of Baytown, Texas, and Lisa Oliver of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Billy Oliver and wife Susan of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Lana Villarreal (husband Enrique), Tommy Moore (wife Kristy), and Virginia Maloy (husband Jack); great-grandchildren, Madison DeBorde (husband Cody), Luke Villarreal, Kinley Moore, and Keegan Moore. Along with nieces, nephews and other loving friends and family.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, followed by a celebration of Alice’s life at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Chuck Warnock officiating, under the direction Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Private burial will follow.
