Arthur Allen Dumas

Arthur Allen Dumas, 87, of Kilgore, Texas, passed away on June 22, 2023, in Kilgore. He was born on September 23, 1935, in Norphlet, Arkansas, to Ida Lee Strange Dumas and Charles Bert Dumas.

After graduating from Buras High School in Buras, Louisiana, in 1954, Art joined the United States Navy. He was first assigned to the USS Guide, stationed in Tacoma, Washington. His proudest assignments included service on three aircraft carriers: USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, USS Forrestal, and USS Enterprise. Art served his country honorably. He was a proud member of the military community, and his service was an integral part of his life. He continued his proud service as an active participant of Veterans of Foreign Wars and by taking part in many ship crew reunions over the years.

Art was an active member of the Laird Hill Baptist Church and found great comfort in his faith.

Art is survived by his wife, June Smith Dumas of Kilgore, and his daughter, Melody Dumas Turner and her husband Gerald Turner of Morgan City, Louisiana.

Art will be remembered as a kind and generous man who was loved by many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Art is also survived by his sister, Mary Katherine “Kitty” Dumas Byers of Jonesboro, Arkansas, his grandson, Jeremy Turner of Redondo Beach, California, and his granddaughter, Caitlyn Turner Guiffreda and her husband, Eric Guiffreda of Prairieville, Louisiana. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Gillian Rose and Emilia Mae Guiffreda of Prairieville, Louisiana.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Johnnie Muckenfuss Dumas, his second wife Delores Cavasos Dumas, his sons Michael Alan Dumas and Mark Anthony Dumas, and his brothers Thurman Lloyd Dumas and Bonnie Muriel Dumas.

Art’s final request is to be cremated and to have his ashes spread at sea by the newly commissioned aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise, CVN-80.

A memorial service will be held on "Friday, August 4, 2023 at 2:00 PM, in the Wardroom on board the USS Alabama, 2703 Battleship Parkway, Mobile, AL.
