Barbara slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus early Monday morning April 5, with her daughter Karleen by her side. She was a godly woman who loved nothing more than caring for her family, especially the love of her life, Carl Sheldon. Her love for her family and husband, Carl, was always evident. They maintained the love they had as newlyweds throughout their 68 ½ year marriage. They always sat side by side holding hands. Goodbye kisses were not just one but more like three or four. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family’s favorite memories were Thanksgiving and Christmas spent at Nana and Popaw’s house. Another family favorite was Gravy and Biscuit parties on the patio.
Barbara was born August 4, 1930 in Jefferson, Texas to the late Thomas Curtis Maxwell and Myrtle Hugghins Maxwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Carl Sheldon, baby brother, Curtis Lavell Maxwell; and her second mother, Clariece Maxwell.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda and husband Rodney Biggs of Kilgore and Karleen and husband Mike Reeves of Longview; son, Clayton of Kilgore; sister in-law, Ellen Jackson of Washington; brothers in-laws, James Sheldon of Kilgore and Hugh Sheldon of Washington; grandchildren, Kellie & Shawn Barker, Tracie and Montana Wallace, Seth and Patience Reeves, Amy and Chris Hopkins, Brad and Ashton Reeves and Chad Mulvihill; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jackson Barker, Caden and Colten Wallace, Jessie, Chase, Jett, and Jagger Reeves, Judd, Nate, and Case Hopkins, Ava, Elliot, Austin, Annie Reeves due this September, and stepbrother Freddie Grubbs. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family and friends.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the wonderful, loving staff at Arbor Grace, Dr. Lanka, and Marshall Hospice for their tender care for Mrs. Sheldon.
She loved her church, Friendship Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1030, Kilgore TX 75663.
