BARBARA OTHELLA PERKINS SMITH


A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Rader Funeral home Chapel with Reverend David Hampton and Trey Smith officiating. There will be a private burial in Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died at her home, Tuesday, December 20, 2022.


Othella was born January 31, 1936, in Honey Grove, Texas to Jesse and Lottie Perkins. She was a 1954 graduate of Honey Grove High School and attended East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A&M University - Commerce). She married Joseph Lorn (Bud) Smith Jr. June 1, 1957. After Bud’s early passing in 1970, Othella not only raised and nurtured her children, but was also a banker working in several capacities in Kilgore banks.


Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Randy Earley of Kilgore her son, Joseph Lorn (Trey) Smith, III of Houston, her son Scott Smith of Kilgore; her grandchildren, Zach Smith of Kilgore, Cameron Earley and his husband, Jason Holder of Boonton, New Jersey, Joseph (Lorn) Smith, IV and his wife Jessie Hitzing of Littleton, Colorado and Raven Smith of Kilgore, Texas; four great grandchildren, Kaydon, Kristopher, and Kash Richardson, and Joseph Lorn (Quinn) Smith V; a sister Dorothy Coplin of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.


Othella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Belinda Berryman Smith and grandson, Baine Smith.


The family will greet friends in the chapel immediately following her celebration of life service.


In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in honor of Othella be directed to the Baine Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at Texas A&M University, indicating “Baine Smith Memorial Scholarship” on the memo line.
