Barbara Jean Roberts

Barbara Jean Roberts, a beloved Mother, Nana, Great-Nana and woman of faith, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 6, 2024. She was born on July 25, 1952, in Longview, Texas. At the age of 5, her family moved to the territory of Alaska, where she spent her early years before returning to Texas as a young adult. Barbara began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), dedicating her life to the care and comfort of others. She worked in nursing homes and later at Laird Memorial Hospital, where she found her true calling in the Labor and Delivery Unit. She cherished the opportunity to welcome new life into the world and support mothers in their early days of motherhood.

In her late-50s, she courageously returned to school and achieved a degree in Petroleum Technology with Honors at the age of 61. Her determination and passion caught the attention of Chevron, where she began a new chapter of her career in West Texas. After retiring, she returned home and worked at Walmart, finding joy in staying active and connecting with her community.

Several years ago, Barbara moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, to live with her daughter Tiffany and son-in-law Jabali. She played an integral role in helping raise her beloved grandchildren while continuing to work at Walmart.

Her unwavering faith in God was a cornerstone of her life and provided strength and comfort throughout her journey. Her legacy of love, determination, and service will be cherished by all who knew her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Bettie Roberts; brothers Harley and Charles (Chuck) Roberts. 

She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Roberts-Sanders and son-in-love Jabali of Carlsbad, NM; son, Tracey Wineck of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Joe Roberts and wife Margaret and sister-in-love Janice Roberts; grandchildren, Tyshona Roberts, Kristian Ross, Takara Ross, Tae’Lynn Wickerson, Darah Sanders, Maci Sanders, Drevan Sanders, Ashley Shields and husband Kountry Shields Sr, Ostin Wineck; niece and nephews, Jessica Hiler-Cochran, James Roberts and wife Amy, Nathan Roberts and David Roberts; great grandchildren, Niyah Carman, Na’Kirin Rugley, Na’Karee Rugley, Lexah StClair, Kountry Shields Jr, and Lailynn Shields. and countless additional family members and friends.

A celebration of her life service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 14th, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Rev. Freeman Pierce officiating. Private family burial will follow. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
