Curtis Magness

Services for Curtis “Pops” Magness, 76, of Kilgore will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Rev. Rev. Joey Holden officiating. Burial will follow at Conner Cemetery in Beckville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday evening at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Magness passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 in Longview.

Curtis was born on June 25, 1947 in Conroe, Texas to the late James O’Neal Magness and Lula Kirkland.

Curtis served in the US Army and was a member of Old Path’s Tabernacle Holiness Church in Kilgore. Mr. Magness was an avid fisherman who could out fish most people. Curtis was a strong devoted Christian who knew the bible front and back and had a genuine love for the Lord. His family was the source of his strength and any time spent with them was when he was happiest. He worked for numerous Oil Companies in East Texas for many years. Curtis was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather who will be missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Magness, sisters, Brenda Carrico and Mary Dowling; brothers, Jack Magness and Roy Magness.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Doris Magness of Kilgore; daughter, Tiffany Murphy and husband Russ of Kilgore; sons, Eddy Proctor and wife Amy of Harleton, Texas, James Magness of Hallsville, Ricky George and wife Christy of Overton and David George and wife Virginia of Longview; daughter-in-law, Stacy Magness of Snook, Texas; sisters, Bobbie Lockhart of Synder, Texas and Bettie Cagle of Price, Texas; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
