Graveside service for Dorothy Havard Camp, 88, will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Two O’clock in the Afternoon at the Danville Cemetery with Reverend David Hampton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from Six until Seven-Thirty.

Dorothy Louise Havard Camp of Kilgore, Texas formerly of Harrisonburg, LA. passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Mrs. Camp was born on January 6, 1936, in New Orleans, LA. and loved to say she was misplaced Louisianan with a deep love for East Texas.

She was a graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and received her master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX. Her teaching career began in Baton Rouge, then in Lafayette, Houma, Haughton, LA ending at Eastview Elementary in Kilgore.

Mrs. Camp’s passion in life was to care for others, her friends, family and especially her dear fifth graders, always putting others before herself. After retiring she continually had a project, especially, making quilts for family and St. Jude’s Hospital. Collecting recipes and cooking for the holidays and family events was one of her greatest pleasures. The family had many talks after her delicious meals about their childhood and pranks on one another. Also, she was an avid reader reading across the spectrum of many genres, but abhorred science fiction. Nana, as she was called by her grandchildren, loved her stories about being a teenager in the 50’s, her experiences working on the parish bookmobile, a theater usher, clerking in her grandmother's store and even picking cotton with high school friends. She was one of the lucky ones to attend high school and college during the best decade of all time and was Miss Harrisonburg from her hometown.

Mrs. Camp was a member of Club au Courant, First Baptist Church, the East Texas Multi-Myeloma Association in Gladewater and charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Catahoula Parish.

Surviving Mrs. Camp are her sons Joel of Kilgore, Darren and his wife Brooke of Tatum, daughter Tanya Little and her husband Michael of Longview and her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Camp-Forbes, Kristie Camp, Ashlee Jones, Erin Moore, Mason Camp, Dylan Camp, Colten Camp, Kaylee Camp, Kate Camp and eight wonderful great grandchildren that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her son, George, Jr and husband Ivan.

Memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church Kilgore or a charity of your choice.
