Dorris "Sarah" Callens

Services for Mrs. Doris “Sarah” Callens, 94, of Kilgore will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Fellowship Church in Kilgore with Mr. Steven Hamilton officiating. The family will receive friends before services from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Danville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Callens, John O’Brien, Kendall Beale, Tanner Faye, Braden Callens, and Brody Callens and honorary will be Jay Callens. Mrs. Callens passed away in Kilgore on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Sarah was born on September 8, 1928, in Mitchell, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late Martin Well and Onie Irene Sistrunk. She married her late husband Williams Thurman Callens on July 26, 1946, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. Sarah had been a resident of the Kilgore area for 69 years; she was a seamstress and worked for Nardas in Kilgore for many years. Mrs. Callens was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Kilgore. Sarah loved her family and will be dearly missed by all.

Preceded in death by her husband, William Thurman Callens; sons, Kenneth and Sammy Callens; brothers, Van Sistrunk, Tony Sistrunk, Billy Wayne Sistrunk, James Sistrunk, Donald Sistrunk, and Jimmy Sistrunk; sisters, Vera Robinson, and Joyce Cox.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gary Callens and wife Ann of Liberty City; daughters-in-law, Ginger Callens of Willis, TX, and Vikki Morrison of Jacksonville, TX; sister, Shirley Flowers of Turlock, CA; grandchildren, Nikki Radford (Clay) of Angleton, TX, Brandy Hairell (Russell) of New Waverly, TX, Shauntell Copeland (Ken) of Kilgore, Aimee Callens (Robert) of Longview, TX, Candice Faye (Kristopher) of Midland, TX, Jay Callens (Kristin) of White Oak, TX, and Scotty Callens of Victoria, TX; 18 Great Grandchildren and 11 Great-Great Grandchildren along with other family and friends.
