Genelle Kay Olson

Funeral services for Genelle Kay Olson, 92, of Minden, La, formerly of Kilgore will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Gray from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Longview officiating. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home on Wednesday, one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Olson passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in Minden, Louisiana, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on March 15, 1931, in Wells, Texas to the late Austin and Bonnie Kay. Mrs. Olson was a Kilgore resident for much of her life and was a graduate of Centenary College in Shreveport, La. Genelle taught school for many years. She will be remembered for her sweet selfless spirit and her childlike faith and love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Genelle was preceded in death by her husband, Byron W. Olson and sister, Sarah Watkins.

She is survived by her sons, Mike Smith of East Mountain, Texas, Bruce Smith and wife Gail of Bossier City, Louisiana and John Smith and wife Kim of Gilmer, Texas; daughter, Sarah Moore and husband Bob of Athens, Louisiana; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
