Graveside services for Jacob “J.D.” Trowbridge, 77 of New London are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Hampton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 on Friday evening at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Trowbridge passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at his residence.
JD Trowbridge was born on July 28, 1945, in Hill City, Kansas, the third youngest of eleven children. JD travelled widely, including Europe, but remained a son of Kansas his whole life, visiting often for family reunions, school reunions, and to see friends. After service in the army as a photographer, JD settled in Texas and began working in the Oil and Gas industry. For years, JD travelled out to the Gulf every other week, full of stories and trash talk about his friends and colleagues. JD, or Papaw, was a man of varied interests. He loved cars, especially his restored Econoline pickup. He loved to make things in his shop from the vast store of "stuff" he had saved over the years. He loved to travel, and crossed the United States, Canada, and Alaska on his road trips to see friends and family. Papaw was a big history buff and enjoyed tracing his family story. Papaw was an enthusiastic grandpa. There were many, many baseball and basketball games held on the driveway, on the decidedly non-regulation court he built. He was a good friend to folks and enjoyed holding beer church with his pals on someone's back porch, solving all the world's problems.
JD was a devoted husband to Sharon, with whom he spent 28 happy years. They loved to go on adventures together, clad in matching outfits, running the roads. When Sharon became ill, he nursed her with great love and care, until she passed in 2012. Later, JD was lucky to meet Sue, and they spent his remaining years in New London, playing shuffleboard at the tavern, playing with his cars and garden, and petting Joy and Trubble. JD completed his time at home with Sue and her daughters. He will be greatly missed by many people.
Mr. Trowbridge is survived by his special friend, Sue Abla of New London; daughters, Tina Denmon of Kilgore, Christie Moores-Love of New London and LaDawnna Yates of Overton; sons, Renault Trowbridge, Michael Dean Trowbridge, John Lynn Hines, Jr., Joey Wilkinson and Ray Wilkinson.
