JAMES EDGAR HARVEY
Services for James E. Harvey, 93, of Kilgore will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Glenn Young, Dr. Pete Freeman and Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in Kilgore Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday morning between 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Rader Funeral Home. Mr. Harvey passed into Heaven Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Longview, Texas.
James was born January 27, 1926 in Cookville, Titus County, Texas to Thomas and Thelma Harvey. He met his best friend and the love of his life in 1942 and they married four months and six days later. Mr. Harvey served our country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a well-respected businessman who owned and operated James Harvey Food Store for many years and was a past director of Affiliated Food Stores. James was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Kilgore where he has served as a deacon. Mr. Harvey was a three term City Commissioner. He was a director and past president of the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce. James was 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Kilgore Chapter #630 and a member of the American Legion. James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was so very proud of his family.
Mr. Harvey is survived by his son, Jerry Harvey and his wife Mimi of Katy, Texas; daughter, Glynda and her husband Charlie Hale of Kilgore. Also, left with wonderful memories of this sweet man are grandchildren, Blake Harvey and wife Luz, Kristi Simpson and husband Mike, and Lyndi Bidne and husband Aaron; nine great grandchildren, Wes, Hale’, Emma, Nate and Evie Simpson; Chloe` and Sofia Bidne; and Mariana and Catalina Harvey; sisters, Ramona McDaris and Martha Cowan; brother Thomas Harvey; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Lois Bamberg Harvey, his parents, brothers, Marshall, Jack and Gregory Harvey; a sister, Mary McEntire and one granddaughter, Marisa Harvey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kilgore, Shriners Children’s Hospital or Heart to Heart Hospice of Longview.
