James Anderson Pepper, better known to all as “Crowdog” passed away peacefully in Longview, Texas surrounded by his loving family on July 20, 2024. A visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore on Monday July 22 from six until eight o’clock in the evening. A graveside service will be held the following day, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at ten o’clock in the morning at Chalk Hill Cemetery in Henderson, Texas located on Highway 1617.
Crowdog was born February 1, 1941, in Gladewater, Texas to Waymon and Ollie Pepper. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed nature. He worked in the oilfield as a consultant and wild cater but was a “Jack-of-all-trades”. Throughout his career he owned and operated Capital Oil and Gas with his brother Gene and worked for Zenith Energy. Crowdog retired from Sandridge Energy after numerous years. He loved the outdoors. Crowdog spent much of his time hunting and fishing. While living in Colorado Mr. Pepper was an outfitter leading big game hunts with High Country Safari. He spent many days with family and friends in such pursuits. Crowdog married the love of his life and best friend, Elaine White. Together the two shared four children and fifty-five years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Crowdog was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Lana Dean (Chris), Tressa Brown (Jack), Cheryl Headrick (Phillip), and Scott Pepper, sweetheart Jamie Taylor, brothers Charlie Pepper(Patsy) and Doug Pepper (Kay), grandchildren Jeremy Brown, Colton Pepper (Cassie), Cody Pepper (Teagan), Connor Pepper (Kendall), Christopher Pepper (Trista), Taylor Dean (Shayla), Trevor Dean (Rachael), and Jamie Johnson (Roger), great-grandchildren Mylia Dean, Layni Dean, Becks Pepper, Thax Pepper, Breianna Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Kayden Dean and Kinsley Rae Dean. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and family members.
In passing, Crowdog was reunited with his wife Elaine Pepper, parents Waymon and Ollie Pepper, sibling Robert Pepper, Gene Pepper, Juanita Norris, and Ruby Norris and granddaughter Kelli Headrick.
