Janet Ruth Palmer, 81, of White Oak, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Janet Ruth was born April 4, 1943, to Edwin and Ruth Little of Sablinsville, Pennsylvania.
At a young age, Janet Ruth trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior, and committed to live her life for Him. After high school, she was educated at Kansas City’s Calvary Bible College and the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
On July 2, 1965, Janet Ruth married, Bob Palmer, a widower with two children, Bobby 5, and Kathy 2. Bob and Jan then had Amy Beth in 1967 and Scott in 1969 in Detroit, Michigan, where they had made their home.
While being a devoted wife and a loving Mom, Jan served alongside Bob in his ministries with Voice of Christian Youth, Detroit, the University of Arizona, Tucson, and his counseling ministry in Birmingham, Alabama.
In addition, Jan worked for the Christian Service Ministry coordinating the distribution of food to churches in four states. Also, Jan worked with Betty Martin-Glass as a tour agent to Israel. They hosted pastors to acquaint them with the possibility of bringing church members on a tour of the Holy Lands. During her nine trips to Israel, Jan grew to love Israel and the Jewish people.
Jan’s crowning achievement was being a Grandma to 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Specifically, Jan was instrumental in raising five of her grandchildren.
Jan will be remembered for her hospitality, creativity, and humor. Great joy came to Jan through scripture including the passage in Proverbs 3:5 and 6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” And one of her favorite songs was “It is Well with My Soul.”
In December 2018, Bob and Jan moved from Birmingham, Alabama, to White Oak, Texas, to be near their son, Scott, and his family.
Jan is survived by her husband, Bob of 59 years; three children, Bob Palmer (Bonnie), Santee, California; Kathy Morris (Mark), South Bend, Indiana; Scott Palmer (Karin), White Oak, Texas; and 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Phil Little (Nancy), Waco, Texas.
Jan was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Beth Wright, 57, her parents Edwin and Ruth Little, and brothers James Little and Walter Little.
A private interment service was held at the New White Oak Cemetery, White Oak, Texas, on Saturday, December 14, 2024. To commentate the memory of Janet Ruth Palmer, a Memorial Service will be held at a future date in White Oak.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Institute for Creation Research, Post Office Box 59029, Dallas, Texas 75229-9809.
