Joe Arnold Whitten, Jr.

A family led memorial service for Joe Arnold Whitten, Jr., 52 of Kilgore will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at two o’clock in the afternoon at Grace Baptist Temple in Kilgore. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Whitten completed his earthly journey on Monday, June 3, 2024, in Tyler, Texas.

Joe was born to Joe, Sr. and Shirley Whitten in Berkley, CA on January 16, 1972. The family moved to Texas in 1980. Joe had a passion for racing in his younger days that he shared with his father, Joe Sr. Racing at local tracks at Lone Star Speedway and Rosebowl Speedway in the 1990’s. He loved to work on engines and prided himself on that accomplishment. Joe loved the outdoors and spent time with his oldest grandson, Connor fishing and hunting in the past years. Time spent with his children and grandchildren were the most important moments with him. Joe loved his family and friends. He was always a giving person who others counted on to be there in their times of need.

Joe worked for Patterson UTI for over 15 years and made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed working with his son, Cal, at the family shop in Pine Tree caring on a legacy passed down from his father.

Joe also spent several years in the Sabine Volunteer Fire Department and was proud of the time he spent serving his community.

Joe is survived by his wife, Audrey of 23 years. Three sons, Joe III of Kilgore, Austin of Troup and James of Kilgore; grandchildren, Connor, Kase, Asher and Axel; his mother, Shirley Whitten of Kilgore; sister Jamie Whitten-Gardner of New London and brother Eric Whitten of Kilgore. His very beloved “niece” Sara Freehling Aubrey, and several aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Sr and brother John Freehling.
