John A. Mccomic

May 18, 1941 — April 11, 2024

John A. McComic, 82, of Kilgore, Texas, peacefully completed his earthly journey April 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. John was born May 18, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, to John Byron and Barbara McComic. Intelligent, driven, and dedicated, John graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, attended San Marcus Military School, earned his bachelor’s degree at UT Arlington and his master's degree at Stephen F. Austin State University. Education was important to John; he dedicated himself to shaping young minds through education. John worked for 41 years in Kilgore ISD where he taught history and fulfilled an administrative role as principal. John served for six years in the U.S. Navy, both as active duty and as a reservist.

John moved to Kilgore to live on his ancestry land in 1968. After two years, he met the love of his life and best friend, Carolyn Dee “Dee Dee” Cleary. The two were wed February 21, 1974. Together John and Dee Dee built their family, which was everything to John. Dee Dee and their two precious daughters were the lights in John’s life. Eventually, John and Dee Dee welcomed four grandchildren as well. John’s life was centered around his family. Any time he spent with them was quality time and each moment is a precious memory his family now holds tightly in their hearts. John spent his time productively and intelligently; an avid reader John soaked up as much knowledge as possible. He created whatever was needed by re-purposing broken things, creating a beautiful garden and farm life for his family. He enjoyed his time hunting, fishing, and cooking. John is dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his devoted wife of 50 years, Dee Dee; his daughters, Sasha (Rusty) Posey and Alesha (James) Osteen; his grandchildren, Madelyn and Mackenzie Posey, McKenna Merle and Cooper Osteen; brother Jimmy (Nancy) McComic; his sister-in-law, Billie (Larry) Phillips; along with nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

In passing, John was reunited with his parents and grandparents.

John’s family will receive guests Tuesday, April 16, from five until seven o’clock in the evening. His funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at two o’clock in the afternoon. Both services will be held at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
