John Judson Bagwell, Jr. - A Life Well Lived
John Judson Bagwell, Jr., (often called J.) passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, at
Homeplace hospice facility in Tyler, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years
old.
A graveside service will be held at Kilgore Cemetery on May 25, 2024, at 11:30 AM.
John was born in Kilgore, Texas, on January 22, 1932 to John Judson Bagwell, Sr. and
Charleen Elizabeth Bagwell. John grew up in Longview and graduated from Longview High
School in 1949. He continued his education at Riverside Military Academy in Georgia,
graduating in 1950, before earning his BA from Baylor University in 1953.
John proudly served his country in the Air Force after graduation, stationed in Korea for two
years. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the UN
Service Medal.
John eventually returned to East Texas where he met and married the love of his life,
Rosemary. They built a beautiful life together in Longview, sharing 56 years of marriage, raising
a family, and creating many good memories filled with laughter, dancing, and travel adventures.
John is survived by his daughter, Deanne Rose and son-in-law Gordon Spriggs, son, Jud
Bagwell and wife Tracey Bagwell, grandchildren Luke Rose, Marina Rose, and Jonathon
Bagwell, sister Jane McCrea (George McCrea), brother-in-law Bobbie Joe Clark (Martha Clark),
sister-in-law Patty Clark, and many extended family members. John was predeceased by his
beloved wife, Rosemary, his parents, brother-in-law David Alvin Clark, and nephew Randall
Clark as well as his mother and father-in-law, Joe and Mabel Clark.
John lived a life of satisfaction and contentment. He was passionate about the things he loved
and enjoyed them to the fullest. He enjoyed all things business and had a successful career in
insurance and real estate. John spent countless hours fishing for bass at Cherokee Lake,
reading the Dallas Morning News cover to cover daily, and maintaining a dedicated exercise
routine – all contributing to his long, fulfilled life.
Above all, John cherished his family, especially his time with Rosemary. He will be deeply
missed for the love, support, and stability he provided for all of them throughout his life.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Arbor Grace Kilgore, the ICU
and Critical Care staff at Christus Good Shepherd Hospital Longview, and the exceptional staff
at HomePlace,Tyler, through Hospice of East Texas.
