Johnny Paul Mize

Johnny Paul Mize, 66, of Kilgore, completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, with Pastors Michael Mize and Cody Mize officiating. Public visitation will take place one hour prior to this funeral service. Cremation will take place at a later date.

Born on October, 24, 1956 in Tyler, Texas to the late Paul Bruce Mize and Jearlene Greer. Johnny grew to be a proud and talented athlete, graduating in 1975 from Banquete High School. He earned a certification in welding and began his career in the oil field working for Halliburton. This provided a unique opportunity to live and travel all over the world and experience much of its beauty.

Johnny’s passions were found in his love for family and the great outdoors, specifically football.

Mr. Mize married the love of his life, Mary Sue Hoelzel of Alice, Texas in 1986. Together they lived in Alaska before settling home in Mineola, Texas to raise their two children, Curtis and Emilie. After Curtis’ high school graduation, Mary Sue and Johnny moved to Kilgore where Johnny retired from Halliburton in 2015.

In passing, Johnny was reunited with his beloved parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Mary Sue Hoelzel Mize of Kilgore; children Curtis Mize of Kilgore, Emilie Stallings (Kelly May) of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Ashley Mize-Mendoza (Frank Mendoza) of San Antonio, Clayton (Michelle) Quinones of Kingsville, Leslie (Mike) Ryan of Long Island, New York; grandchildren Brix, Tony, Aiden, Clayton, Caden, Mackenna, and Logan; great- grandchild, Nevaeh; siblings Jerry (Sheree) Mize of Mineola, Sherry (Allen) Wilks of Carthage; siblings-in-law Frank (Farrell) Hoelzel of Katy, Michael (Deborah) Hoelzel of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Thomas (Gail) Hoelzel of Austin; and countless loving family members.
