Services for Kathryn Ott Toon, 63 of Kilgore will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2024 at Forest Home Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Fried officiating. Burial will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Pallbearers will be Champ Monaghan, Case Monaghan, Tom Todd, Jess Todd, Alan Barrilleaux, Dr. Jerry Ted Roberts and Scott Toon.
Kathryn Ott Toon is known as a beloved wife, Mom, Honey, sister, and friend. She was born July 9, 1961 in Kilgore, Texas to Dr. William and Mary Ott. She peacefully departed this earth on October 3, 2024, after an almost 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She passed in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loved ones.
Kathryn married the love of her life, Steve, on December 18, 1981 and had 2 children, Lindsey and Clint. Kathryn graduated from Kilgore High School in 1979 and was the Homecoming Queen her senior year. She graduated from Kilgore College where she was a member of the 40th line of the world-famous Kilgore College Rangerettes and then attended UT Tyler to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Elementary Education. After her children got older, Kathryn continued her education at Stephen F. Austin State University earning her master’s degree in counseling. She taught part time at Kilgore College before beginning her career at Kilgore ISD for 21 years teaching at Chandler Elementary and Kilgore Heights.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Steve, of 43 years. Children: Lindsey Monaghan (Joe) and Clint Toon (Megan). Grandchildren: Champ and Case Monaghan and Audrey and Cameron Toon. Siblings: Jane Lane (Mark), Trisha Irving, Jimmy Ott (Debbie), John Ott (DeeDee), Laura Nivin (Steve), and Lynn Heye (John); sister-in-law, Lanell Toon, brother-in-law, Mike Toon and wife Delores, brother-in-law, Jackie Toon and wife, Judy and sister-in-law, Dena Allen and husband Jeff, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. William and Mary Ott, father and mother-in-law, J.W. and Dosia Toon, siblings, Bill Ott, Liz Ott Jodry-Gatons, infant sister Mary Kathleen Ott, and brother-in-law, Troy Toon.
Kathryn’s family extends our deepest gratitude to her dedicated caregivers Lulu Roquena and her amazing hospice team Brittany and Judy at Hospice of East Texas.
