Kay Smires, 83, born on October 4, 1941, in Jacksonville, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, in Longview, Texas. Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose impact on her community and family will be profoundly missed.
A graduate of Overton High School, Kay met her husband Jim Smires with whom she shared 63 memorable years of marriage. Together, they embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship, starting and operating many successful businesses throughout their lives. Kay's work ethic was undeniable; she was known for always being industrious, whether caring for others or managing various projects. Her dedication to her family and her community was evident in all she did. Kay had a remarkable sense of humor and was never shy about expressing her thoughts, traits that endeared her to those around her.
She loved her family with unwavering devotion and provided them with support throughout their lives. She is survived by her son, Mike Smires of Kilgore; her daughter, Sissy Smires Stanley of Kilgore; grandchildren Quincee Smires, Matt "Spanky" Stanley, Luke Stanley, Abby Stanley, Hallie Smires, and Kate Smires; and her great-granddaughter, Tillie Lyn Stanley. She leaves behind other family members and many friends who cherish her memory.Kay was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Kilgore and participated in the Kilgore Garden Club, nurturing both her faith and community relationships.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, George Joe and Pauline Conlee Bellamy; her beloved husband, Jim Smires; and her son, Mark Smires.
Visitation for Kay Smires will be held on December 2, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rader Funeral Home, located at 401 North Martin Street, Kilgore, TX 75662. A graveside service will take place on December 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Pirtle Cemetery, CR 173 N. @ CR 174 Overton, TX 75684. Kay's legacy of hard work, humor, and unwavering love will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew her.
