Kenneth Arlen Freeman, 92, of Longview, Texas, died peacefully on January 7, 2025, at his home. Born on January 23, 1932, in McPherson, Kansas, Ken was the son of Delbert Franklin Freeman and Mildred May Ganson. A proud Texan with a sharp mind and an independent spirit, Ken lived a full life, defined by his family, his career, and his unwavering principles.
Ken graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas, where he developed his love for business and entrepreneurship. He remained an avid Longhorn fan the rest of his life!
Ken's professional life was marked by his successful career as an independent oil man, founding Tahoe Oil and Gas and Tahoe Drilling. He also enjoyed the life of a rancher, owning and operating Firewater Ranch.
He was a veteran of the Korean War where he proudly served in the U.S. Navy.
Ken was known for his strong views on life and the world. He was never afraid to voice his opinion and often sparked lively discussions with his family, friends, and colleagues. His proud, sometimes opinionated nature was balanced by his deep love for his family and his dogs, who meant the world to him.
Ken is survived by his brother Gary Freeman; three daughters, Kim Landreth, Karen Davis, and Kaye Garner; eight grandchildren, Kathleen Ferrufino, Courtney Landreth, Elizabeth Landreth, Bryant Davis, Sidney Davis Pan, Nolan Garner, John Taylor Garner, and Sofia Garner. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, with one more expected in 2025: Caroline Ferrufino, Lennon Davis, Lincoln Davis, Oliver Pan, Henry Pan, and Frieda Pan. Additionally, Ken is survived by nieces Angela Gibbs Brandenstein and Allison Gibbs Wishowski. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Freeman Gibbs.
Ken’s legacy will live on through his family, his contributions to the oil and gas industry, and the lessons he taught those who knew him well. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Labre Indian School (at https://www.stlabre.org) or Longview PAWS at (https://longviewpaws.org/donate) in Ken's honor.
*Rest in peace, Ken. Your bold spirit will never be forgotten. *
