Interment will follow in Danville Cemetery under the Direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 pm on Saturday prior to the service in the sanctuary of New Covenant Church. Kim went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 18, 2019 in Tyler, following a car accident.
Kim was born on November 29, 1967, in Longview to Leon and Sherron Gregory. She graduated from Gilmer High School in 1986 and then from Kilgore College School of Nursing in 1995. Kim accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and served Him faithfully throughout her life. She grew up in church with the love of her life, John DeYoung and they united in marriage on March 29, 1986. They made many loving and happy memories for over 32 years. Kim had a servant’s heart and was passionate and compassionate with her nursing care of mothers and babies during her 22-year employment with Christus Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview. She was a mentor to beginning nurses and an instructor with a specialty in external fetal monitoring courses. She impacted many who came through to shadow the labor and delivery department. Kim not only provided the physical care needed by her patients, but also offered her spiritual care as her ministry to many.
Her love of nursing and others led her to go on numerous mission trips both spiritual and medical. She was blessed to be able to go to Ecuador, Guatemala, Philippines, Honduras and Mexico to be the hands of Christ to both body and soul of countless people. Kim worked as a “weekend nursing warrior” in Arlington, Dallas, Kingwood and Texarkana. Her family and her friends were the source of her strength and spending time with them was her greatest joy, especially her grandbabies, where she was definitely in her favorite place. She enjoyed her yearly trip with her fellow nurse friends and all the fun and laughter they shared. In her spare time Kim loved to read, resting in the sun and having pedicures.
Kim gave of herself to others until she went home to be with the Lord. Her final act of giving was to donate her organs to help others. She was deliberate and specific about wanting that legacy of life.
Left to cherish her memory and legacy of love and giving are her husband John DeYoung of Liberty City; children, Connor DeYoung of Liberty City, Logan DeYoung, who is faithfully serving our country in the U.S. Navy, and his wife Megan of Connecticut; grandchildren, Carson and Cody DeYoung of Connecticut; parents Rev. Leon and Sherron Gregory; sisters, Becky Gregory McKinney and her husband Rev. Wade McKinney, Melissa Gregory Edney and her husband David Edney - all of Liberty City and sister in love, Margo Gregory of Oklahoma. Also, left to carry on her legacy are numerous brothers and sisters in love, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers and other loving family members.
Kim was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, mother in love, brother in love and brother Rev. Eugene Gregory.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pathway Church, 913 W Loop 281, Longview, T X 75605 or Longview Cancer Center, 1300 N. Fourth St., Longview, TX 75601.
