Lewis Gene Phelps
Services for Lewis Gene Phelps, 85, of Kilgore will be held at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore on Friday, March 18, 2022, at ten o’clock in the morning with Reverend Vaun Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Kilgore Memorial Gardens directly after the service. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from six until seven-thirty. Lewis completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in Tyler surrounded by his loving daughters.
Lewis was born on March 15, 1937, in Avery, Texas to the late Beulah Mary Dorer and David Lem Phelps. He graduated from Avery High School, class of 1955. Lewis married the love of his life Nancy Davidson on August 6, 1963. They shared thirty-nine joyous years of marriage and three children together. Lewis retired from the City of Kilgore in 1997 after over thirty years of employment. He had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, listening to bluegrass music, gardening, canning, raising hogs and chickens and attending church. Lewis also loved to cook. His dumplings were always the star of the show at every family event. Spending time with his family was his favorite pastime. Lewis was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tonya Phelps Willis and husband David Willis of Kilgore, Crystal Phelps Chessher and husband Glenn Chessher of Saratoga, daughter-in-law, Deborah Beall Phelps of White Oak, grandchildren, William Gene Phelps of Kilgore, Kayla Wade of Kilgore, Kourtney McDonald and husband Dakota McDonald of Kilgore, Cody Willis and wife Celeste Willis of Kilgore, Caleb Willis and wife Dre Willis of California, Corey Chessher of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Kristen Chessher of The Woodlands, great-grandchildren, Blaklee McDonald of Kilgore, Johnny Chandarlis of Kilgore, Chelsea Zuniga of Kilgore, Sage Willis of California, and Madilyn Phelps of Longview, sister, Mary Jane Walton and husband Lewis Walton of Whiterock, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members.
Lewis was reunited with his wife Nancy Davidson Phelps, son, Lewis Winford Phelps, his ten siblings, and his parents.
