Lloyd Blaine Bolding, 90, long time resident of Kilgore Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on December 31, 2024. He was born on August 16, 1934, in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Bland and Iva Bolding.
Lloyd attended Wewoka High School, where he was actively involved in FFA, raising cows and chickens, and enjoyed being a part of the wrestling team and the W-Club. He graduated in 1952 and continued his education at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. While there, he continued to wrestle competitively for OU. During these college years, he took a two-year break to proudly serve in the U.S. Army.
Upon returning to OU, he met Evelyn Stout, and they married in 1959. Two years later, Lloyd graduated with a BS in Petroleum Engineering, a field he had been passionate about since childhood, inspired by his dad’s work in the oilfields of Oklahoma. This foundation set the stage for a successful career and a lifelong commitment to the industry he loved.
In 1961, Lloyd, Evelyn, and their newborn son, Bo, moved to Kilgore, Texas. There, Lloyd began his career as an engineer trainee at Dowell Inc. before moving on to Pure Oil Company. By 1966, fueled by the financial support and encouragement from his sister Imogene and brother-in-law GW (Chub) Boyd, Lloyd took a bold step and started an oil well stimulation business, Acid Engineering, Inc.
As his company grew, so did his family, with the arrival of his second son, Jeff, in 1967. This period marked a significant turning point in Lloyd’s life, as he balanced the challenges of entrepreneurship with the joys of fatherhood, laying the foundation for both his professional success and his family’s legacy. By the 1970s, Acid Engineering had expanded throughout Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. His passion for the oil and gas industry drove him to develop other industry-related companies; including Dyna Test, Ltd., Ceco Equipment, Inc., and Walter Exploration. In 1996, he launched Dyna-Coil Capillary Services.
Lloyd earned the respect of industry leaders and employees alike for his exceptional work ethic, innovation, and expertise. He was not only known for his professional achievements but also for his genuine kindness – he treated everyone like a friend, ensuring they felt valued and cared for. This personal touch fostered lasting relationships and created a positive work environment that reflected his belief in the importance of community.
If he wasn’t working, you could find Lloyd immersed in one his favorite pastimes – hunting, fishing, playing cards with friends, or even burning a brush-pile at Danville Farms. He loved the holidays at the farm and one of his favorite traditions was watching the community come out to choose a Christmas tree. Lloyd was truly blessed to find a partner in James Robinson. Together, they shared a vision for the tree farm, turning it into a beloved community staple. James, his wife Mary, and their hardworking family poured their hearts into the farm.
To truly know Lloyd was to recognize the depth of his generosity and kindness. He was the perfect blend of a leader and a servant. In his sixty years of involvement as a resident of Kilgore, he gave back tremendously to his community. Lloyd was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Kilgore, where he served on the financial, personnel and education building committees. His commitment extended beyond the church; he served on the board of the Kilgore Independent School District and the Board of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall Texas.
In addition, he served as President of the Kilgore Economic Development Board and President of the Roy H. Laird Country Club. His influence reached further through his roles on the Gregg County Airport Economic Development Board, East Texas Treatment Center Board, and the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation. Finally, Lloyd served on the boards of Allied Citizens Bank and Regions Bank. In serving the American Cancer Society, he, along with Chub Boyd and Bobby Stroope, started the Small Fry Fishing Tournament held annually at Danville Farm.
Lloyd’s years of dedicated service and leadership did not go unnoticed; he received numerous awards that honored his contributions to the community. In 2008, he was named “Kilgore Man of the Year.” He received the “Distinguished Service Award” by the Texas Society of Petroleum Engineers and the “Pioneer Award” by the East Texas Society of Petroleum Engineers. He also received a 10-year service award from the University of Texas at Austin Extension Division for instructing Well Stimulation courses at Kilgore College. In 2015, he was awarded the “Landmarks of Longview Preservation Award,” and in 2018, the “Derrick Award, from the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation.
Most of all, Lloyd was a proud supporter of his children and grandchildren in everything they pursued. Whether it was a ball game, a performance, or any special event, you could always count on him and Evelyn to be there, cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm. Being a dad and granddad brought Lloyd immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent celebrating their achievements.
Left to treasure his memory is his beloved wife Evelyn, of more than sixty-five wonderful years. He is survived by his two sons, Bo and his wife Beth of Longview, and Jeff and his wife Tami of Kilgore. Lloyd’s cherished grandchildren -- Blaine, Brandon, Brooke, and Brady and his wife Kameron, all of Longview; Josh of Kilgore, Jake of Kilgore, and Jack Lloyd of San Marcos. His precious great-grandchildren, Rylie, Addison, Camden, Drue, Boston and Atlas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, H.B. Evans of Billings Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Imogene and Maxine, and his two brothers Floyd and Junior, and his brother-in-law Chub Boyd.
