Louise Dickson Sims

Louise Dickson Sims died on Sunday morning, October 1, 2023, at the age of 99 years, in Atlanta, Georgia. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 19 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Her graveside service will be held Friday, October 20 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Danville Cemetery, Revered Will Wilson will be presiding.

Louise was born in Kilgore on July 23rd, 1924. Her parents were Star and Ria Dickson. She was the youngest of four children, two brothers, Edward Dickson and Wilson Dickson, and one sister, Kathryn Dean, all of Kilgore. Louise formerly resided in Pasadena, TX, Richardson, TX, and Tulsa, OK.

Louise graduated from Longview High School, attended Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin State College, graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Mathematics in 1944.One of the highlights of her college years was being part of the first year of Kilgore College Rangerettes. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living Rangerette.

She was married for 63 years to James Sims, who she met at SFA, and had 3 sons, Alan Sims (Chris Lock) of Atlanta, GA, Philip Sims of Corpus Christi, TX, and David Sims (deceased). She and Jim travelled to 6 of the 7 continents and delighted in sharing stories of their adventures. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, leading Bible studies with the Bible Study Fellowship.

She loved her four grandchildren; Paul Sims of Atlanta, Mark Sims (Mary Gezo) of Atlanta, GA, Mariah Sims (deceased) and Mary Ann Sims (Jesse Tingle) of Charleston, SC and great-granddaughter, Phoebe Sims. She was eagerly awaiting the birth of her second great-grandchild expected at the end of October.

Louise lived in Assisted Living at The Mansions of Sandy Springs, Atlanta, since July, 2021. She was served with kindness, generosity, and respect.
