Loy Gordon

September 27, 1936 — January 22, 2025

Kilgore

Mr. Loy Gordon, 88, a beloved member of the Kilgore community, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, surrounded by his family in Longview, Texas. Born on September 27, 1936, to Lucille and Gus Gordon, in Kilgore, Loy lived a life characterized by dedication, service, and a deep love for his family.

Loy devoted many years of his life to the family business, Gus Gordon and Son House Movers, where he honed his skills in the moving industry and contributed significantly to its reputation and success. In his later years, he gathered great joy serving as a greeter at Kilgore Wal-Mart, where his friendly demeanor and warm smile brightened the days of many shoppers.

An alumnus of Kilgore schools, Loy's lifelong commitment to his community extended beyond his career. Loy took great pleasure in attending his church, Trinity Assembly of God, and listening to the love of his life, Nona, play the piano at church. He enjoyed reading his Bible every day as he strived to have a closer walk with the Lord. He was an avid sports fan who passionately followed the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. His interests included fishing, playing tennis, and bowling, activities that reflected his vibrant personality and enthusiasm for life. Additionally, Loy took great pride in coaching little league baseball, imparting essential skills and values to the young players he mentored. He supported all his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, graduations and other important activities. Loy loved to hear his wife and daughters sing and was their biggest fan. It was only fitting that they were able to be at his bedside singing to him as he was ushered into Heaven.

Loy is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Nona Gordon, of Kilgore. He cherished his daughters, Cindy Allen and her husband Lennie of Longview, and Charlotte Mobbs and her husband Kenny of Kilgore. Loy also leaves behind his brother Charley Gordon and his wife Kathy of Henderson, and his sister Joan Long and Fructuoso Moreno of Kilgore. He was a proud Papa to Jason Gunn and his wife Stacy, James Allen and his wife Jennifer, Nate Mobbs and his wife Courtney, Natalie Byrum and her husband T.J., and Jessica Johnson and her husband Casey. Loy’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Codi, Bailee, Presley, Jaxxon, and Jessie Johnson, Archer and Alana Allen, Kinley and Colt Gunn, Nolan and Brynn Mobbs, Sophia Threlkeld, and Peyton Byrum. He is remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Lucille Gordon, and by his brothers Wayne and Terry Gordon.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Kilgore on January 29, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Danville Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Pastor Roger and Ginger Hoffpowier, Kirby and Linda, and all the church members for their support and prayers and welcomes all friends and family who wish to honor Loy’s memory and celebrate the remarkable life he led.
