Margaret Ann ” Myrt” Goodin ended her earthly journey on November 4, 2024 in Longview, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones after fighting a valiant seven year battle with COPD. She was 78 years old.
Myrt was one of seven children born on September 9, 1946, in Archer City, Texas, to the late Roy P. Loftis and Eleanor Lucille Prater. She attended school in Archer City, and in 1964 left school to marry her husband, John Goodin of Kilgore. They were married for 53 years until his death in 2017. Myrt was a homemaker while her children were young, then after they were older, she went to night school and earned her GED. She worked for a time at Movies and Sounds in Kilgore and Kennedy Gourmet.
Myrt cherished the moments spent with her loved ones- she loved family gatherings, going fishing, and being outside. Her passions also extended to the thrill of the game. Since the 1980’s she and her close friends, Diana Ponder, Sharon Robinson, Darlene Sanders, and Pat Gaddy played penny ante poker every Thursday, until COVID in 2019 stopped their weekly games. Myrt had an independent spirit and a fierce determination that was unequaled. She never quit or gave up.
Myrt's lasting legacy will live on through her children, Leslie Listenbee and her husband Jay of Kilgore, and Brian Goodin and his wife Amanda also of Kilgore. Two siblings Eddie Loftis of Scotland, Texas and Carolyn Berend and husband Rick of Windthorst, Texas. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jared Listenbee, Leah Listenbee, Selena Goodin, and Jeremiah Goodin, who brought her immense pride and joy. Additionally, she leaves behind her only great-grandchild Za'Kai Campbell of Kilgore and Za Campbell, the father of Za'Kai, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Myrt is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John L. Goodin, and her sisters Lillian Belyeu, Judy Conder Elliott, and Jeannie Carriger, as well as her brother Billy Loftis.
Myrt Goodin will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her love will endure in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
The family would like to publicly thank her pulmonologist of many years, Dr. Adam Yu of Longview and family physician Dr. Mark Miller of Kilgore as well as the entire staff at Christus Good Shepherd for their loving and devoted care to her and her family.
A visitation will be held on November 7, 2024, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, with Reverend Riley Pippen officiating.
