MARY ELIZABETH WESTMORELAND KALTEYER THOMPSON
A memorial service for Mary Thompson, 95, formerly of Sugar Land, Texas, will be 2 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2023, at The Hamptons of Tyler, 4250 Old Omen Road, with the Reverend Dr. Stuart Baskin officiating. Mrs. Thompson joined the Church Triumphant, Monday, February 20, 2023, while living in Tyler, where she resided the last 3 years.
A reception honoring Mary Thompson will be Saturday, March 4, 2023, in the Garden Room of Sugar Creek Country Club, Sugar Land Texas from 4-6 pm. A private interment will be at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, Houston, Texas
Mary was born December 22, 1927, in Oil City, Louisiana to Ernest Earl and Willie Mae Westmoreland. The Gulf Oil Company moved their family to Kilgore when Mary was a young girl. She graduated in 1946 from Leverett’s Chapel High School and later attended Meadows Draughon’s Business College in Shreveport, Louisiana. She married Charles Frederick Kalteyer October 21, 1950, at Laird Hill Baptist Church. Mary grew up in Kilgore but spent most of her life in the Houston Metropolitan area. She married Byron H. Thompson April 5, 1980. Mary and Byron owned and operated Thompson International Catering, Inc. Mary traveled to many worldwide destinations in her role at their corporation. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed sewing, bridge, painting, dancing, and traveling, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Sugar Creek Country Club, and the Sugarland First United Methodist Church. She moved to Tyler in 2019 to be nearer to her daughter.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Karen Kalteyer Russell of Tyler; her grandchildren, Courtney Russell of Eagle, Colorado, Matthew Russell of New York City, Robert Kalteyer and his wife Allison of Dallas, John Kalteyer and his wife Sandy of Houston and Richard Kalteyer and his wife Claire of Dallas; nieces and nephews, Judy Hanks and her husband, Sonny of Kilgore, Janie Madison of Winnsboro, Texas, Joy Best and her husband Kevin, of Lindale, Texas, Howard Hunt of Del Rio, Holly Coerver of Dallas, Hilton Hunt of San Antonio, Susan Harms of San Antonio, Donna Kalteyer of Frederick, Maryland and Ken Kalteyer of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and sons, Charles Ronald Kalteyer and Stephen Frederick Kalteyer and her sister, Billirene Westmoreland Ware.
