Michael Layne Smith

Michael Layne Smith was born on October 6, 1967 in Longview, Texas to the late Denny Marvin Smith and Elaine Maxwell Smith. Michael attended Sabine High School where he was a member of the Cardinal football team and then attended Kilgore College.

Michael’s biggest love was his children and animals. Anytime you saw Michael he probably had one of his children or an animal by his side as he truly was a child at heart. If you hung around Michael for any length of time you would most certainly have a memory, story or adventure. Please share that memory so they may be passed on to his children and can remember him and know how special he was to all his friends and family. Michael worked in the trucking industry up until his death where he made friends from coast to coast. To know Michael was to love him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents Denny and Elaine Smith, stepbrother Derik Elrod and grandparents Marvin and Constance Smith and Jake and Joy Maxwell.

He is survived by his much loved children, daughters Jayden Lynn Smith of Prosper, and Courtney Smith of Sherman, sister, Delaine Smith of Prosper, brothers, David Smith of Ovilla and Trace Elrod of Dallas, Stepmom, Cheryl Smith of Longview along with a host of beloved nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends who were cherished beyond words and were present in his daily life until the very end.

Michael never met a stranger in his life and I feel sure heaven will be no different. He loved people and people loved him. Rest easy Michael, we will take care of the babies down here!

Graveside services for Michael Smith will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024 at The Smith Family Cemetery with Rev. David Hampton officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Michael passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 in Longview.
