Mike Birdwell, born on November 9, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on December 13, 2024, in Lewisville, Texas, following a brief illness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege to know him.
A graduate of Sherman High School in Sherman, Texas, in 1968, Mike furthered his education by attending the University of North Texas in Denton. His academic pursuits laid the groundwork for a successful career in sales, culminating in his role as a recruiter in the insurance industry at the time of his retirement. Throughout his professional life, Mike exemplified the traits of a true people person, building strong relationships and connections that transcended the bounds of business.
In addition to his career accomplishments, Mike served his country honorably in the United States Army, demonstrating a commitment to duty and patriotism that he carried throughout his life.
Mike was known for his passion for classic cars, a hobby that reflected his love for history and craftsmanship. He also enjoyed reading and taking long walks, simple pleasures that brought him joy and peace. His dedication extended beyond personal interests; he actively engaged in volunteer work within the Highland Village community, where he found fulfillment in giving back.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Linda Leak Birdwell of Highland Village, Texas; his son Joe Birdwell and wife Abbie of Hurst, Texas; daughter Michelle Athey and husband Bryan of Sadler, Texas; step-daughter Suzanne Bair of The Colony, Texas; step-son Stephen Bair of Carrollton, Texas; half-brother Frank Bright; and grandchildren Emily, Ruby, Austin, Aubrey, Macy, and Blake. The love he shared with his family and friends will be forever cherished.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Joseph “Joe” Murrell Birdwell and Bobbie Jo Meade Birdwell.
Funeral services for Mike will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peatown Church in the Peatown Community. Burial will follow at the Peatown Cemetery.
