Mr. Richard A. Slakes

Rich was born on August 20, 1947, in Rochester, New York, to Seeska Catherine Steffens and Leonard H. Slakes. He was a graduate of Brockport High School class of 1965. He continued his education at Letourneau University, SUNY Brockport, and Rochester Institute of Technology.

He married the love of his life, Debbie Boss, on June 1, 1968 and enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage together.

Rich was the man who could make anything out of nothing. There were few things he couldn’t fix and, in that case, he went to his good buddy YouTube to find out how. He was a retired UPS driver and in his retirement an accomplished gardener, skilled handyman, and wonderful grandfather. He was a devoted Christ follower and a member of Kilgore Bible Church. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We mourn his passing and will miss him dearly. We can all take comfort and rejoice in knowing that he is now in heaven with the Lord, and, with faith in Jesus, we will all join him soon. We are only here on earth for a short time. Our home is in heaven with the Lord.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Deborah J. Slakes; son Robert L. Slakes, Sr., and wife Crystal; son Richard J. Slakes, and wife Kathleen; daughter Amanda E. Slakes Robinson, and husband Stephen; son Daniel E. Slakes, and wife Amy; daughters of choice, Dyan K. Slakes, and LoryJean E. Slakes; grandchildren: Robert L. Slakes, Jr.; Raelynn L. Slakes; Nicholas S. Slakes-Poirier, and wife Ariel; Alainya C. Slakes Falk, and husband Joshua; Natalie M. Slakes; Adam J. Slakes; David J. Slakes; Benjamin A. M. Slakes; Eliza N. Robinson; and Cora E. Robinson; great-grandchildren Charlotte J. Falk; Edward M. Falk; and Meara E. Falk; sisters, Karen L. Cordaro, and husband James; Wendy K. Bradburn, and husband Richard, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members.

Richard was reunited with his parents, S. Catherine and Leonard H. Slakes.

Cremation arrangements for Richard A. Slakes 76, of Longview are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. A memorial service will be held on December 2, 2023 at 10am at Kilgore Bible Church, 3810 County Line Rd, Kilgore, TX 75662. He completed his earthly journey on Monday, October 9, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
