Mrs. Mary Joann Young Jones

Cremation arrangements for Mrs. Mary Joann Young Jones, 88 of Kilgore will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mrs. Jones completed her earthly journey on Monday, August 7, 2023, at her home in Kilgore surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on November 15, 1934, in Kilgore, Texas to Eunice Baggett Young and Elmer “Whitey” Young. She was a proud graduate of Sabine High School class of 1952. After graduating school Mary continued her education at Kilgore College where she completed her Licensed Vocational Nursing Degree. She married the love of her life Jesse “Jimmie” James Jones in 1953. They shared forty-nine years of marriage before his passing in 2002. Mrs. Jones worked for Good Shepherd Medical Center for over twenty-five years and for Gregg Home for the Aged Inc. nursing homes for ten years before her retirement. Mrs. Jones’s hobbies included camping at Tyler State Park and Whispering Pines R.V. Park, playing card games, cooking, and spending time with her family. Mary especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Mary Ann Johnson, grandchildren Stephanie Joann Ransom, and Staci Jo Bridges and husband Charles Bridges, great-grandchildren, Brittanie Kay Porter and husband Devin Custer, Hunter James Milam, Zachary David Pack, Sadie Nicole Pack, and Violet June Bridges, and great-great-grandchildren, Zoey Grace Custer, and Landon Travis Custer. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Eunice and Elmer Young, husband Jesse “Jimmie” James Jones, daughter Glenda Jo Jones Ransom, son Steven Brian Jones, and four siblings.
