Ola Knighton Hooper, a beloved Mom, Mamaw, Mamaw Ola, friend and vibrant spirit, was born on July 13, 1935, in Stamps, Arkansas to Clarence and Evie Knighton. She peacefully departed this world on September 13, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at her residence. Ola's journey through life was a testament to her unwavering love for family and her quick-witted charm that brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Ola's career began as a seamstress at upholstery shops in her younger years, showcasing her skill and passion for handiwork. Her talents evolved as she took on roles as a U.S. Government Inspector at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant and later as a Proof Machine Operator at Minden Bank and Trust. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in every endeavor she undertook.
A proud graduate of Stamps High School, Ola was the Salutatorian of the Class of 1953, demonstrating her intelligence and dedication to her studies. She was an exceptionally smart individual, always keeping her hands busy with hobbies such as crocheting, embroidery, and woodwork. Reflective of her vibrant personality, she often said, "Idle hands are the Devil's workshop," emphasizing her belief in the value of hard work and productivity. Her delightful humor and wit were a legacy she passed down to her grandchildren, ensuring that her infectious laughter would resonate through generations.
Ola cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her loving daughter, Donna Ann Hooper Beets and son-in-law Ricky, her cherished grandchildren: Bryan Beets and wife Stephanie, Dusty Beets and wife Lindsay, and Alaina Beets Gearheart and husband Gabriel. The joy of her life continued to grow with the arrival of seven great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable happiness: Conner, Tanner, Brylie, Kyler, Karlee, Ryder, and Chayse. Ola also leaves behind her sister, Erma Aldridge, and brother-in-law, Carroll Hooper and wife Nora, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who were touched by her kindness and wit.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Donald Hooper, her parents, and her brothers, Keith and Clarence Homer Knighton. Ola was also preceded in death by her loving sisters, Evelyn Rogers, Thelma Wright, Nada Clements, and Alice Jean Young.
As we remember Ola, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life marked by love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. She will be laid to rest following a graveside service at Shiloh Cemetery in Buckner, Arkansas, Monday September 16, 2024. Prior to that, a visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas, Sunday September 15, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her memory will be cherished as the beautiful fabric of their lives continues to be woven with her teachings and the joy she imparted.
