Ray A. Miller Iii

February 27, 1930 — August 15, 2023

Ray Miller, 93, of Kilgore, completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at his residence in Kilgore surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, with Rev. Dudley Plaisance officiating. The Miller family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service. Cremation to take place at a later date.


Ray was born on February 27, 1930 in Huntington, Indiana to the late Ray A. Miller Jr. and Ruth A. Reinbolt Miller. Mr. Miller obtained a degree in petroleum engineering at Kansas State University and served his county in the U.S. Army achieving rank of Sergeant. He was a Mason, Shriner and long-time member of Pirtle Methodist Church. Ray was actively involved in the church and community, he was known for his generosity to all.


Ray married the love of his life, Barbara Jo DeBaum of Hominy, Oklahoma in 1953. Together they settled in Kilgore, Texas and raised their two sons, Robert Ray and Russell Allen. Ray worked for Dowell then the Texas Railroad Commission until Ray proudly started his own business, R A Miller Energy, which he operated until his retirement in 2022.


In passing, Ray was reunited with his parents, beloved wife, Barbara, and their son, Russell Allen Miller. Left to cherish his memory are his brother; Richard Miller of Rolla, Missouri; son, Robert Ray and wife “Tess” of Bossier City, Louisiana; daughter-in-law and widow of their late son Russell Miller, Holly Miller of Kilgore; grandchildren Cameron Ray Miller, Christine Dunn and Joseph Normand; three great-grandchildren and other loving family members.


The Miller family would like to extend their gratitude to all of Ray’s caregivers and those people who helped to better his life.
