Rita Ellerd

Lorita (Rita) Ellerd passed away surrounded by her loved ones on the afternoon of February 2, 2025. Rita was born on September 24, 1956 to Shirley and Sam Ellerd of Kilgore. She was an immensely adoring daughter, supportive sister, and the most loving aunt. Rita leaves behind a tremendously creative and vibrant legacy. She was always making different crafts or trying new food recipes for every holiday, life event, or just to make someone smile. She was adamantly George Straight’s #1 fan, could be found in countless moments laughing until she cried, and was a fierce advocate for the wellbeing of all animals (excluding snakes). She embodied unconditional love for those in her life. 

 She was preceded in death by her brother Sammy Ellerd Jr, parents Sam and Shirley Ellerd, and grandmother Clara “Nanny” Duncan. Her beautiful and joy filled life will forever be cherished in the lives of her sister Vera and husband Mark Compton of Kilgore, nephew Trevar Compton, his wife Whitney and their children Legend, Lincoln, and Everest of Kilgore, niece Autria and husband Christopher Stavinoha of Houston, and niece Laci Melton and her husband Larry of Kilgore and their children Braydon and Landon. The family will be holding a private burial service at a later date.
