Robert "Bob" Lawrence Young

He was the son of an army officer and a civilian contractor. Born March 15, 1949, on Carlisle Military Barracks nestled in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania. He went to be in God’s presence December 29, 2023.

Robert (Bob) lived a life full of joy and adventure. His most fond childhood memory was standing on the Champs Elysees in Paris watching President Kennedy and Charles de Gaulle during a parade. On April 11, 1980, he married the love of his life, Terri Laird Young, in Austin Texas and together they explored the world of books, travel, farming, music and daughters. He was the father of Tess Elise Young and Hayley Elizabeth Young. He shared his love of books and great story telling by reading to them for hours acting out the characters with voices and leaving them hanging on the cliff for the next act. With patience and guidance he taught them how to pay attention to detail and follow instruction. Tess and Hayley can assemble anything you place in front of them! They all played musical instruments. Bob loved his guitar and together they made the most beautiful music. In his words, Bob said “I’m not worried about my daughters at all. They are great human beings!” He taught them to be true to who they are, to always have integrity and to “never forget where you came from.”

Bob was a finishing carpenter. A gifted craftsman. He built his own home along with many others in the East Texas area. His skill was his passion and he shared it with many. A man of few words, Bob thought before he spoke and when he did, they were words of wisdom. He was generous and kind in a quiet way. He gave his time and money without hesitation or desire of recognition. When he saw someone in need, he acted. He had a love for his animals and cared for them with tenderness and compassion, especially his dog Box. He was a humble man and a man of his word. For Bob, it was God, Family, Country and he lived this every day of his life. Gone but never forgotten, he will be greatly missed and forever hold a place in the heart of those who loved him.

Bob is survived by his wife, Terri Laird Young, two daughters, Tess Elise Young and Hayley Elizabeth Young, two brothers, mother-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Earl Young and Elsie Linderman Young and his beloved dog, Box.

Graveside service for Bob will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Rock Spring Cemetery between Liberty City and Gladewater off Old Hwy 135.
