Robert "Bob" Lewis Johnson

Robert “Bob” Lewis Johnson passed away on January 22, 2025 at the age of 93 in Longview, Texas. A beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Bob will be remembered for his charitable nature by friends and family. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors through hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, and water skiing. He always enjoyed a good game of cards as well as keeping up with the news and political events. His greatest joy in life was spending time with those he loved – he especially cherished the time spent as “PaPaw” or “PawPaw” with his family. 

Born on December 10, 1931, in Kilgore, Texas, Bob grew up the eldest son of Lewis and Vivian Johnson, and brother to Carl, Ben, and Doug. He served as a member of the US Navy from 1951 to 1954 as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate. He attended the University of Texas, where he earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering. During his tenure with the Texas Railroad Commission, Bob earned his Professional Engineering License in 1963. Bob devoted his 33 year career as a petroleum engineer to BP Amoco from 1964 to 1997 from where he retired. 

Bob married the love of his life, Barbara, on August 25, 1951. The two shared 62 blessed years together until her passing on October 18, 2013 that yielded two sons and three grandchildren. 

Bob is survived by his sons Mike and wife Mary Johnson, David and wife Valerie Johnson; granddaughters, Jamie and husband Terence Pennywell, Ashley Johnson and husband David Farmer; great-granddaughters, Brylan and Talayeh Pennywell; brothers Carl and wife Linda Johnson, and Doug and wife Karen Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Johnson; brother, Benjamin Johnson; mother, Vivian Johnson; wife Barbara Johnson; and grandson Nicholas Johnson. 

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Radar Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas beginning at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Burial will follow at the Kilgore Cemetery.
