Services for Mr. Sammie Lewis , 80, of Kilgore will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Post Oak Road Church of Christ with Minister Dale Hendricks officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will follow in De Kalb, Tx at Woodmen Cemetery. Mr. Lewis completed his earthly journey on Friday July 21, 2023, at his home in Kilgore surrounded by his loving family.
Sammie was born on November 20, 1942, to Raymond Tilton Lewis and Ophie Marie Allen, in the community of De Kalb, Texas. He was a proud graduate from Kilgore High School in 1962. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Wise, July 3, 1965. They spent the next 58 years making many loving happy memories. Sammie loved his family more than anything and thrived while being “Mr. Fix- it”, nothing broken stayed that way for long. The ability to fix anything gave him the skills needed to work as a mechanic for numerous years at East Texas Saltwater Disposal. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, and was passionate about drag racing. Sammie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Sammie accepted Christ as his lord and savior, he was a long-time and faithful member of the Post Oak Rd, Church of Christ in Kilgore, having pledged membership in1983.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Lewis, of Kilgore; sons, Shawn Lewis of Midland, Robert Lewis and wife Melissa of Kilgore, Chris Lewis and wife Michelle of Longview, and daughter Hope Dunavant and husband Dixie; grandchildren, Kori Bourg, Kolton Lewis, Shane Lewis, Chance Lewis, Alli Lewis, Haley Lewis, Hannah Lewis, Haden Lewis, Paxton Dunavant, Maks Dunavant, C.J. Whatley, Morgan Whatley; and seven great-grandchildren, along with other loving family members.
He was reunited in death with his grandson Nicholas Dunavant and both parents, Raymond Tilton Lewis and Ophie Marie Allen Lewis.
