Scotty Bruce Barber, 73, of Overton, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. He was born on September 3, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas, to Vergil and Clara Barber. Scotty’s life was marked by his love for his family, his deep faith, and his dedication to his career.
A graduate of Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Scotty was proud to be a part of the Baylor Bears football team during his college years. After graduating, he began his professional journey with a two-year teaching and coaching career at Gladewater High School in 1974 and 1975. During this time at Gladewater, Scotty taught English and coached football, where he positively influenced many young lives. In 1976, he transitioned to a long and successful career in the oil industry, working for Exxon for 33 years, where he earned respect and admiration for his hard work and dedication.
In addition to his professional career, Scotty’s passion and love for working on the farm took up many hours of his days. After retirement, he built his dream home on the land where he raised cattle and baled hay throughout the course of his adult life. He continued to maintain the land through the final days of his life.
Most importantly, Scotty had a passion for life, especially when it came to spending time with his loved ones. He enjoyed watching Baylor sports, working on his farm, was a passionate and thoughtful storyteller, and was always happiest surrounded by his family. As a devout believer in Jesus Christ, his faith was an essential part of who he was, and it guided him in all aspects of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church Liberty City.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Barber; their three children, Kristin (Mark) Walker, Natalie (Grant) Curtis, and Colt (Sarah) Barber; and 12 grandchildren who brought him immense joy, Luke, Jake and Taylor Walker, Sophie, Macie and Lincoln Ganz, Reaghan, McKenlee and Karter Curtis, and Andrew, Caroline and Logan Barber. He is also survived by his brother, JW (Vicki) Barber, and sisters, Marilyn (Gary) Burton and Sharon Cohagen.
Scotty was preceded in death by his parents, Vergil and Clara Barber.
