Shirley Sue Odom, a loving mother and dedicated homemaker, passed away on February 26, 2025, at her residence. Born on September 4, 1944, in Grand Saline, Shirley was a beacon of love and warmth for her family throughout her life.
Shirley devoted herself to her family, and nothing brought her more joy than nurturing them with her compassionate heart. Her pride was evident in her most cherished accomplishment: marrying her best friend and soulmate, Thomas Wayne Odom, in 1964. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
A faithful member of Lighthouse Church in Liberty City for over 45 years, Shirley's unwavering spirituality was a cornerstone of her life. Her family centered personality and loving heart made her a pillar of strength for all who sought her guidance. She would often be found fishing at her favorite spots or enjoying thrilling moments while watching game shows, especially “Jeopardy,” where her quick wit and vast knowledge shone through.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Karen and Kaydee, who carry her light forward, and her adored grandchildren Kasey, Kimi, and Kara, along with great-grandchildren John, Ryan, and McKinley. Shirley’s siblings, Fred Jr. (Debbie) Denmon and Patsy (Billy) Eason, mourn the loss of their cherished sister, alongside many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, her dear church family, and her extended family, all of whom will deeply miss her loving spirit.
Shirley is reunited in eternal rest with her dear parents, Fred Sr. and Leta Denmon, her cherished husband Thomas Odom, and her beloved daughter Kathy Odom.
Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate her remarkable life. Visitation will be held on February 28, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM, at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. A funeral service to honor her life will be conducted on March 1, 2025, at 3 PM, also at Rader Funeral Home.
Her legacy of love and devotion will forever remain etched in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. Shirley Sue Odom will be remembered not just for her nurturing spirit but for the countless moments of joy she brought to the lives she touched.
