Shirley Willoughby

Shirley Ann Willoughby, 93, of Kilgore, TX went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, August 12, 2024. She was born in Matagorda, TX to Raymond Hester and Myrtle Winnie Chambliss Hester on February 26, 1931.

Shirley was a life-long member of McCary's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and faithfully served the church, community and friends in many ways. She attended "BSF" Bible Study Fellowship for 10 years and participated as a group leader the last 2 years. She truly enjoyed her pursuit of a deeper relationship with God through the study of His word.

She graduated as the valedictorian from Sabine High School in 1948; from Kilgore College in 1950; and later attended SFA.

Shirley was a great homemaker and was a "stay at home mom" until her sons were all in school. She was proud of her career history which included selling shoes at "The Toggery" and working for Prichard & Abbott prior to being hired as the Sabine ISD Tax Assessor-Collector, where she worked for 30 + years. She retired in 1996 and volunteered at UTHSC in Tyler for many years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Stephen Eugene Willoughby and her son, Samuel K. Willoughby.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Forrest E. Willoughby and wife Mickey, Clyde R. Willoughby and wife Tami; daughter-in-law: Toni Willoughby; grand-children: Melinda Domain and husband Daniel, Jamie Thomas and husband Kenne, Samantha Shipman and husband Brandon, Stephen Ray Willoughby and wife Amber, Summer Hanson and husband CK and Katelyn Clements and husband Michael; great grand-children: Kaylee Chase and husband Jeremy, Olivia Domain, Dominik Shipman, Braden Shipman; Korbin Willoughby, Cloe Willoughby and Tripp Hanson; great great grand-children: lan Chase, Archer Chase, Rocky Jackson and Kaden Jackson.

A special note of heartfelt thanks is extended to Arabella of Kilgore Senior Living and Kindful Health Hospice for their extraordinary care and support for Mrs. Shirley and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 31,2024 at Radar Funeral Home in Kilgore, TX at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
