Kilgore

Sue Nell Bass, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and Kilgore community member, passed away on January 17, 2025, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 86. Born on June 30, 1938, in Nacogdoches, Texas, Sue was a star in the lives of those who knew her, illuminating every room with her presence and kindness.

Sue's life was a tapestry woven with love, hard work, and an abundance of cherished moments. A proud graduate of Kilgore High School, she met her future husband, Lloyd Bass, during their freshman year. Their love blossomed, leading to a beautiful union on July 20, 1956, a testament to the lifelong commitment they shared. Together, they nurtured a family that became the heart of Sue's existence. Together, they built a warm, welcoming home where countless family gatherings were celebrated. Sue's adoration for her family was unwavering, and she took immense joy in every moment spent with her grandchildren.

An array of hobbies captivated Sue’s creative soul, particularly sewing and quilting. These passions were not just pastimes, but expressions of her love - each stitch imbued with warmth, each quilt a work of art filled with memories. Family members will hold these tangible tokens of her affection close, as a reminder of the gentle, loving hands that crafted them.

Though Sue mourned the loss of her husband Lloyd, her parents William and Lattis Christian, and her brother Michael Christian, as well as her beloved son Larry, she continued to exemplify resilience and grace. She remained a pillar of love and support, forever holding the memories of those she lost close to her heart.

Sue leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, laughter, and unyielding strength. As a mother, Sue adored her children, Tony and Terri, fostering close relationships that remained strong throughout her life. She opened her heart to her daughters-in-law, Dianna and Sharon, embracing them as part of her family. Her love extended to her beloved grandchildren: Chad, Jason, Melanie, Wes, Aaron, Bryan, Jeremy, Randall, and Dylesa, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to her life. A legacy of love continues through her 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, each a bright star in her family constellation. She is remembered fondly for the strong bonds she built, particularly with her siblings, David Christian and Billie Deacon who shared in the tapestry of her life filled with joyous moments and deep connections. Her family will forever cherish the profound impact she had on their lives. As they navigate their grief, they take solace in the memories of her warm smile, loving spirit, and the joy she brought to everyday moments.

Family and friends will gather to honor Sue’s life. A visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with a graveside service to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 3:00 PM.
