Kilgore

Tammy Irene Ortiz, a cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother, and doting great-grandmother, passed peacefully at home in Kilgore, Texas, on January 29, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on February 18, 1964, in Benton, Arkansas, Tammy entered this world with a kind spirit and a heart centered on family, traits that would define her life.

Tammy’s career was not measured by titles or accolades; her greatest joy came from nurturing her family as a loving housewife. She poured her energy and love into her home, creating a warm and welcoming environment that served as the heart of the family. Each year, one of her most beloved traditions was baking Christmas cookies, filling the air with the sweetness that symbolized her love during the holidays. These moments, rich with laughter and shared stories, became treasured memories for her children and grandchildren.

Her pride and joy was truly her family: she was a loving wife to Javier Ortiz for 40 years and a doting mother to her children Rebekah Chico, Sarah Pennington, and Jeff Pennington. Tammy found immense fulfillment in watching them grow, supporting them unconditionally, and celebrating their accomplishments, however big or small. Her legacy continued through her grandchildren — Kyle Hampton, Kiera Belton, Wyatt Pennington, Kayli Pennington, Nova Pennington — and her great-grandchild, Elijah Hampton. They brought light to her life, and she delighted in every moment spent with them, sharing her love and wisdom.

Tammy's family connections extended to her siblings, Teri Pennington, Tracy Thompson, Susan Chico, and Latrisha Morris, with whom she shared a deep bond. Though she mourned the loss of her parents, Robert and Billie Smith Pennington, her brothers Tony Pennington, Bob Pennington, Frank Pennington, her sister Darla Cedillo, as well as her granddaughter Jordyn Hampton, her love for her surviving family remained steadfast.

An incredible sister and aunt, Tammy embraced her numerous nieces and nephews with affection and kindness. She understood the importance of family ties and fostered those connections throughout her life, ensuring each family member felt valued and loved.

In this time of mourning, we celebrate the remarkable life of Tammy Irene Ortiz. Though no formal services are planned at this time, we find solace in the memories shared and the love that remains. A dignified cremation has taken place, allowing us to celebrate the life lived and the moments treasured. Her spirit, dedicated to her loved ones, will forever be remembered. She leaves behind a legacy defined by love, warmth, and the joy she found in her family. As we reflect on her days, may we find comfort in the memories she created and the unconditional love she shared, knowing that her light will continue to shine through those who knew her best.
